I first got into film after I wrote a One-Act for my school’s One-Act Festival. I’ve been writing stories since I could remember, but this was the first time I had formatted one as a script. It opened up a lot for me as an artist. I’m interested in different mediums, like visual art, photography, and music, and I loved that with film you get to combine all these things. There’s a lot of freedom and possibility in how you can intertwine the different aspects of film to connect with the audience in a way that’s very different when these mediums stand alone.

My hope as a filmmaker is to simply connect with someone watching my films. It’s mind-blowing to me how someone I’ve never met, and may never meet, could watch my films, learn something deeply personal about me, and maybe even feel something resonate within them. If someone out there feels a sense of comfort or learns something from watching a film of mine, I’ll feel as though I’ve done my job. Life can get lonely sometimes, so art that reminds people that they aren’t alone in their experiences is important. Many films have done that for me, and they’ve taught me a lot, especially during this stage of my life and the state of the world, about how I should go about finding my place in all of this. At the end of the day, I hope that I’ve put something out into the world that makes it a little less lonely.
